Rhythm of the Needles

Hand knitting has been around for thousands of years – where and how it was invented has been lost in the mists of time. It has been said that primitive man (or woman?) made webs out of roots and that it has grown from there. Certainly it has nearly always been an occupation for women. Some early examples of knitting come from around the eighth century although these examples have been identified as ‘nalbinding’.

Depending upon where you look, the history of the humble knitting needle according to some sources was found in Egypt or an adjoining land – then it spread rapidly along the trade routes into Europe. Early knitting
