My Knee Op

SNOW WAS FALLING THICKLY, relentlessly blown over the land by a fierce wind that seemed to be coming straight from the North Pole.

A quote came to mind, which had provided some comfort during the previous months: “The blizzard doesn’t last forever; it just seems so.” I looked down at my pitiful canvas shoes, reassured myself of the double layer of woollen socks sheltering my feet, and decided to cover the 5km distance from the hotel on foot.

The walk was beautiful, not only because I hadn’t experienced such a winter wonderland in years, but also because I was aware that this was most likely going to be my last walk on relatively functional legs for some time.
