SWEET DREAMS

If you’ve been thinking about revamping your bedroom, start by creating a mood board and gather colours, textures and looks that appeal to you. Don’t rush. Decide on a colour scheme, then introduce splashes of colour with throws, cushions and artwork. Everything doesn’t need to match or look like it came straight off a showroom floor; it’s your space, so inject your personality into it with pieces that have meaning to you.

Enjoy the journey and take time to create the bedroom you’ve always wanted. Don’t underestimate the impact of layering with rugs, throws and soft furnishings — in a bedroom, layering creates warmth, comfort and visual interest. Even if you are redoing your bedroom with a limited budget, splurge on a few items you love.

TIPS TO TAKE YOUR BEDROOM FROM DRAB TO FAB!

• There’s nothing like the soft luxurious• Consider storage options when redecorating. An ottoman at the bottom of the bed is a great place to store blankets, and many new bed styles have built-in storage underneath.• Accent walls are making their mark in modern bedrooms, whether it’s a feature painted wall or wallpaper.• Mix up throw cushions on your bed with a range of styles, shapes and textures.• Think about bedside tables; there is so much variety on offer, some with ample storage, others with none. Many can also be used in other rooms as side tables.• Pay attention to height in a bedroom; you can place wall art lower than you would in other rooms because a lot of the time, you’ll be horizonal while you’re in that space.• Aim for cosiness underfoot — like a soft rug for when you tumble out of bed.
