f you’ve ever wandered up to a piano and just pressed every key on the keyboard in order, either up or down, taking in both the black and white notes in the order they appear, what you’ll have played is a chromatic scale — or at least part of one. Generally speaking, the term chromatic relates to the use of notes that are a semitone apart (semitones are sometimes referred to as half-steps, but I’ll be using the term semitone throughout this tutorial). So a chromatic scale is one that uses all of the 12 note pitches that appear on a piano keyboard,
