SUBJECT: Hereditary Harshness
FROM: Mtn Hi
Is harshness hereditary? I’ve been growing outside for two years in a hot and dry climate. I use 15-gallon cloth pots. I don’t overfeed, and I stop feeding two weeks before harvesting. The buds smell good and the potency is there. Why are they harsh?
Dear Mtn,
It’s possible that the harshness is due to the genetics of the plants you’re growing. Otherwise, the drying and curing process could be the culprit. Always dry your plants in a cool, dark place and make sure they don’t dry out too quickly. The drying process should take about 7-10 days before the curing begins. Once the stems snap instead of bending, cut your flowers off the branches and put them into sealed glass jars. Open the jars once a day or so to release the built-up moisture, and within a month or so your buds should be ready to smoke without any harshness.
