Guitar maestro teams up with renowned jazz sax player
You couldn’t accuse Robben Ford of being stuck in a stylistic loop. Think about the vastly contrasting players he’s collaborated with: Joni Mitchell, Miles Davis, Jimmy Witherspoon and KISS, to cite the tip of a rather large iceberg. Then there’s his own best-selling blues outings with his band The Blues Line… the man is fearless.
Here, he teams up with jazz sax player Bill Evans to spin yet another weave of six-string magic. The album came about when Robben was promoting, where he mentioned, somewhat enthusiastically, his forthcoming Japanese tour with Evans. Weeks before the tour, the pair entered the studios with drummer Keith Carlock (currently playing with Steely Dan) and bassist James Genus, and produced . “Having worked with many musicians in many different configurations and styles, I can say freely that this group of players has a great chemistry and ability to navigate uncharted waters, which is what allows for real improvisation,” says Robben. “Making this recording, playing with these guys, has been one of my favourite experiences in a long, musical life”.
