ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS my mother did in 1970, soon after the purchase of my first Arabian, was to subscribe to Arabian Horse World. I’ve been receiving issues of Arabian Horse World pretty much ever since.

While attending a horse show in Mobile, Alabama, in 1969, I met Mrs. Shirley Byrd and her beautiful stallion Ibn Tsali (Tsali x Shalimar Bel-Gara). I had never seen such an amazing horse, and Mrs. Byrd rode him well, winning every class they entered. I remember my mother said, “Well, if you’re going to ride a horse it might as well be a beautiful one!” And so my quest to own an Arabian began.

In 1981, I purchased a young gelding, Naborrs Sentry, from long-time breeders Carl and Dorothy-Helen Huprich. I liked him so much, and really loved his dam, the *Naborr daughter Hadette, that in 1982
