The Hot List: 42 Pieces of Gear You Should Buy in 2020

THE 2019 ICAST trade show was chock full of awesomeness. Many called the event the “Year of the Trolling Motor,” as Lowrance, Garmin and Motorguide launched new technology in that space. But anglers have a lot more to look forward to in 2020 than front-of-boat power, as exciting lure and terminal tackle designs emerged and rod and reel manufacturers kicked cutting edge design into high gear. Clothing and other cool accessories made this list, as well, as you want to be protected from the elements and certainly need storage for all the new lures you are bound to purchase. If you haven’t started saving up some cash to update your bass fishing gear, you better start now. These new products are going to help you put more fish in the boat.

Daiwa Tatula Elite P/F — Designed for pitching and flipping, this reel’s light, low-mass A7075 aluminum spool ensures quicker startup inertia and maximized braking efficiency, while the Magforce braking system provides maximum casting distance with stealthy bait delivery. Unlike standard braking systems, which increase braking pressure at the end of a cast and cause a bait to splash loudly, Daiwa’s new reel decreases magnetic pressure as the spool starts to slow. This keeps the bait on its low trajectory for a quieter entry. Right- and left-handed models are available in 7.1:1 and 8.1:1 gear ratios. ($249.99) daiwa.com

— The Tatula Elite’s lightweight, redesigned A7075 aluminum spool plus the highly tuned, magnetic-based Magforce braking system promote increased casting distance with minimal effort. Facilitating castability, the T-Wing System allows line to cast off the spool with reduced friction, while the Zero Adjustor sets the spool play at the peak resistance so the angler only needs to adjust the Magforce sideplate settings.
