IN RECENT years you may have heard mention of a gut/ brain connection. Apologies in advance to any scientists and purists for my wildly oversimplified explanation but it seems we are coming to understand that a gut with poor bacterial balance tends to trigger stress responses that can exacerbate anxiety and depression whereas a gut with a healthy bacterial microbiome shows a significant increase in mental wellness.
