Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw

1 THE CAMEOS

David Leitch and Dwayne Johnson clearly didn’t have to look far beyond the Favourites section in their contacts to recruit stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob Delaney as CIA agents Locke and Loeb (something of a pun on lock and load), and co-star Kevin Hart as pugnacious US marshal Dinkley. As cameos go, they’re fairly odd, opportunistic things, with Reynolds and Hart in essence playing variations on their well-worn personas, apparently in the hope/expectation that audiences will love them so much that they’ll show up in future instalments. They’re fun, of course — three naturally funny guys being given plenty of roomare a meta commentary on how tiring franchises will draft in big-name cameos in an attempt to spice things up, or whether this is an actual case of big-name cameos being drafted in to spice up a tiring franchise.
