LOST IN THE WILDERNESS
KOSCIUSZKO is more than just our highest mountain – unbidden, it forms part of our national sense of self. So when in 1928 experienced outdoorsmen Evan Hayes and Laurie Seaman went missing high on its perilous slopes, the mystery of the disappearance gripped the country. Focusing on the mountain, Australians united in purpose. Below is an extract from historian Nick Brodie’s new book Kosciuszko offering insight into an almost-forgotten Australia where man was at the mercy of nature.
