WHAT’S THE CATCH?
It’s all about the weather. Fishing, that is. Lighthouse-keeping tasks take precedence, and my partner in life and work, Jeff, does closely monitor the height of the lawn grass and the growth of marine grime on red metal handrails.
But on a Saturday morning with a calm ocean, no coast guard ships or helicopters expected and no pressing tasks to do on the station … behold, we finally have the perfect trifecta of conditions for fishing. Most people head down to the dock or the marina to hop into their boat at this point. Not us.
Our 15-foot aluminum boat must be hoisted up from its trailer, dangling from a hook to which I have attachedthen down the highline, a braided metal cable extending nearly 70 metres (230 feet) to the ocean.
