Setting out their bold plans for the future, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex last week announced they were stepping back from their roles as senior members of the royal family and will divide their time between the UK and North America in years to come.
Coming a day after Prince Harry and Meghan returned to public duties, the news was a “bolt out of the blue” both in and outside Buckingham Palace.
The couple had visited Canada House in London fresh from their seven-week break, which was largely spent on Vancouver Island, ostensibly to thank the country for the warm hospitality they and baby son Archie had received throughout their stay.
