The importance of being square

IT REMAINS A MYSTERY to me as to why are there so many woodworkers who have all the machines and instruments you can think of, but don’t possess any accurate basic layout tools, such as squares. Also, one assumes that any square you buy is actually square… Never assume!

And yet, in spite of this, chat to any group of woodworkers and you’ll find the consensus is always the same – everything needs to be square, flat and straight. But, it’s most often the case that we don’t actually know if our woodworking squares are telling us the truth or not.
