Run Kali Linux NetHunter on Android
Fans of USA Network / Amazon Prime’s Mr. Robot will have seen the protagonist, Elliot, using what’s referred to as a “Pwn Phone” – a heavily customised mobile phone with a host of tools for hacking on the go. Of course, the television show is completely fictitious, but many of the tools and props are based on real-life (there are Raspberry Pis in there too) counterparts. Kali Linux NetHunter is a prime example, a fantastic custom Android ROM designed for mobile penetration testing. This is an OS that turns your phone into a portable hacking station.
Kali Linux NetHunter from Offensive Security comes complete with a custom kernel, Kali Linux chroot, and a suite of Android applications designed around cyber security. While Kali Linux NetHunter is prime for mobile/WiFi penetration, it also includes man-in-the-middle tools, such as HID keyboard attacks, BadUSB attacks, and Evil AP MANA attacks, to name a few.
There are multiple options, but the full chroot is around 600MB in size. This is the package we’d recommend and the one we’ll be using in this tutorial.
