Beware snakes in the grass

When I went down to let the dogs out on the last Thursday in November, Tyne, the three-year-old, looked distinctly under the weather. He ate his breakfast but I left him at home and set off for the shoot with Marne and Tavy. When I returned in the afternoon it was apparent that I had a seriously ill dog on my hands; he was not even able to get up and greet me at the door. An hour later we were at the vet.
