AT JUST 16 YEARS Greta Thunberg has cemented herself as one of the leading voices in the global climatejustice movement. The wise-beyondher-years Swedish activist has urged lawmakers and the general public to confront the disastrous, irreversible impacts of factory farming and adopt a plant-based diet to preserve the planet. Last year, Thunberg’s image went viral after she was snapped standing alone as a one-person protest outside of the Swedish Parliament, and subsequently delivering a poised address to the United Nations. In 2019, Thunberg has inspired a new generation in the fight against climate inaction, sparking teen-led protests in every major city across the world. This year, Thunberg released her first book, ; appeared on the cover of magazine—which named her one of its 100 Most Influential People; and even picked up a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. If Thunberg’s meaningful accomplishments over the course of 2019 are any indication of what’s to come, hope is on the horizon.
