In its adjective form, ‘long’ can be defined as “having considerable linear extent in space” and, having been in a long-distance relationship—between Oslo and New York—for nearly four years, I can personally claim that I’m glad that the days of pan-Atlantic cruises and airmail are over. Enter FaceTime, Gmail, Whatsapp, Skype, and red-eye flights—all of which are also known as my relationship’s saving graces. That said, some of the greatest love letters in history have come from loving from afar.
