Transport through the ages

BEFORE we developed means of transport, our feet were the only way to get anywhere. Luckily, around 6 000 years ago humans domesticated animals such as donkeys, horses and camels and began using them to transport goods and people. Let’s find out how modes of transport developed further.

WATER TRANSPORT

The development of watercraft dates back to the earliest times of humanity. The oldest boats, made of hollowed-out tree trunks, date back 10 000 years, according to archaeologists. But it’s believed that 40 000 to 70 000 years ago the indigenous people of Australia must have travelled there in boats or rafts from Africa.

The movement of goods and passengers were important to early civilisations to their craft to to make the boats sail faster.
