Avalon turns it On

Everyone in the southern hemisphere (and beyond) involved in aviation knows what the word “Avalon” means, although officially the event is known as The Australian International Airshow and Aerospace & Defence Exposition. Avalon is a biennial six days of industry conferences, seminars, meetings, showcases, negotiations, politics, photo opportunities, technology displays, static aircraft displays, fly-ins, hospitality, food and drink, public relations, and flying displays.

And the 2019 event, run from 26 February to 3 March, especially featured heat.

The three trade days weren’t that bad weather-wise, relatively speaking, but the following public days were like standing at the gates of hell in a dust storm. Around 40° in the shade, provided that shade wasn’t in an enclosed space, in which case it was probably 5-10° higher. And on the apron, display pilots and marshals
