THE SHAPE(R) OF LEBANON

I grew up in Lebanon in the small city of Jounieh, just north of Beirut, in a family of four kids – two boys and two girls. I’m the third child. My dad is an electronic repairman, and my mum is a schoolteacher.

Growing up in the late 80s and early 90s during the Lebanese Civil War had its challenges, like sleeping on the stairway of our building because it was the safest place to be when the fighting got too close to our apartment. Often, when we were playing outside, we would have to run for the bomb shelters as we heard the bombs starting to fall. But it was also a normal childhood in many ways, always playing with the other neighbourhood kids and getting into trouble. I
