A group show featuring Mayawokka Chapman, Mulyatingki Marney, Maggie Green, Illyampi Victor Burton, Nyangulya Katie Nalgood, Doreen Chapman, Gloria, Winnie Sampi and Nancy Nyanjlpayi Chapman. Following a visit to the Pilbara in 2018, Artitja Fine Art Gallery is delighted to have secured the opportunity to select and curate this special exhibition of paintings by the Spinifex Hill Studio artists. Based in South Hedland in Australia’s far north west the artists are connected to Country right across Western Australia. The paintings explore the artists deep connection to place through family, memory and culture.

The features works by more than 100 of the best new and emerging WA Aboriginal artists, showcasing the diverse and vibrant state of contemporary Aboriginal art. With paintings, prints, carvings, photography, textiles, video, weaving and more, this generous and enticing exhibition presents the work of artists from remote areas alongside those from regional centres and metropolitan Perth. All works in the exhibition are for sale. Also, – a recent survey of photography from Indigenous Australia. Cinematic vistas of wide-open spaces recall memories of childhood and adolescence, re-enactments of history shed light on horrific frontier violence while restrained yet poignant portraits give face to some of Australia’s more remote communities. With work from remote, regional and metropolitan-based artists, highlights the diversity and complexity of lived experience, history, and expressions of cultural identity across Indigenous Australia.
