Fabian Goldbert states that he first purchased his 1970 El Camino to have a go at drag racing. Looking at it now, with a freshly completed double frame rail chassis and 1500-plus-horsepower motor, we think it’s fair to say that he caught the bug. Mind you, anyone who’s ever drag raced could have told him that that would happen. Before purchasing the car back in 2013, Fabian had owned more than his fair share of cool cars and fast motorbikes. As he recalls, “I’ve been buying, selling, and collecting cars and motorbikes out of the States for years — since 1987, in fact — as well as buying for other people.”
Going back in time even further than that, before his kids were born, Fabian first visited the strip at Meremere Dragway in 1974 or 1975 for a look. It wouldn’t be until 1981, though, that he’d have a go himself, his weapon of choice being a Leyland P76 powered by
