40 DEAD SET AT

For the past 40 years, East Bay Ray has been playing guitar for the Dead Kennedys, one of the premiere bands and originators of the San Francisco punk scene. Ray sat down with Goldmine to talk about life as the only member of the Dead Kennedys to remain a constant over that 40-year period. He also talks about the release of a 40th Anniversary 3-CD set of live recordings.

GOLDMINE: The Dead Kennedys have a new three show live CD set, DK 40, coming out to celebrate their 40th year. Why did you choose these three shows?

Over the years I have collected live shows. People sent me cassettes and also digital files and such and basically the 40th anniversary created the opportunity to release some live CDs. I went through them, most of them were like a mic held up in the audience or from the public address system, so it was just voice and drums, you couldn’t really hear the whole music and
