When six ordinary South Africans flew off to the topical Caribbean island of Curacao in late November 2019, they had no idea which celebrity contestants they’d be teamed up with for this season of Tropika Island Of Treasure (2008-now). That question will be answered in an episode 1 challenge. But make no mistake, the “super six” have their own favourites. So we had six important questions to ask…
Juice (2019) by Lizzo, wearing an orange suit to let my opponent’s think I’m only funny! Announcer: “Fiery and a force to be reckoned with. A bit of spice that definitely packs a punch.” Free (2019) by AKA. One of the lines in the song says, “Nobody gon’ shake my confidence.” I’d have standard boxing shorts with boxing gloves on for Can’t Touch This by ’90s rapper MC Hammer. I’d be wearing a blue silk robe with wings like a bird. The wording says, “Jan gives you wings”. I walk out and the crowd goes silent. Announcer: “S***t!” A mash of Eye Of The Tiger (1982) by Survivor and Yummy (2020) by Justin Bieber for that “Tsiiiing! Tsing tsing tsing!” Every woman has some Yum-my in her. I’d alternate between super tight pink shorts or a long latex jumpsuit, the type that Catwoman wears with really dope sneakers. Announcer: “Lady on the streets and a beast on the battlefield. Ma’leven (referring to the Crescent Gang boss, arrested in 2009) has nothing on her. She’s going to put the contestants in the microwave oven, turn it on then say ‘Don’t say we didn’t warn you!’” A remix of Eminem’s Lose Yourself (2002) and Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now (1978) would get me fired up! I’d probably be wearing a “Love Your Nuts” Speedo (it’s a cancer foundation I’m part of). Announcer: “Whoever has to go up against this guy, I feel sorry for you. He knows no quitting, it’s not in his vocabulary. He will fight to the death and then some. He only has an on-switch and he will only turn off when his opponent’s lights are out. Prepare to meet your maker!” Early 20 Ranger (2017) by Lil Uzi Vert. I’ll be wearing white boxing shorts with two black stripes on either side of the shorts, with my surname “Solomon” at the top of the shorts. Announcer: “Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the quickest man to ever be in a boxing ring, his punches are quicker than lightning!”
