Former GOP US Rep. Aaron Schock announces on Instagram that he's gay, says family still not fully accepting

CHICAGO - A post on Instagram on Thursday from the account of former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, a Republican who served the 18th Congressional District, including Peoria and part of Springfield, announced that Schock is gay.

Schock said he has spent the past year making his way through a list of people he felt "should finally hear the news directly from me before I made a public statement." The Instagram post contained a portion of a longer post
