AFTER THE FALL

Jarrett/Peacock/DeJohnette (ECM 2590/91)

This double album, After The Fall, released just on 20 years after it was recorded, captures the first concert that Jarrett (along with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette) gave following his two-year lay-off due to chronic fatigue syndrome, and, not knowing for sure that he would not collapse mid-gig, he opted for a safe repertoire. I defy anyone to pick that this was a pianist and band that had not performed for that unrolls like a bolt of silk, a super-groovy , and an that they stretch into something distinctly and thrillingly omni-seasonal.
