Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece greets us at her family’s exquisite uptown home in New York City wearing chic blue jeans, a white shirt and – in a nod to her fun sense of style – some leopard-print ballerinas.
For someone whose life appears truly gilded, she’s wonderfully down to earth as she invites HELLO! inside the impressive townhouse she shares with her dashing husband, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece – they celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary this year – with whom she has five children.
They moved from London’s Chelsea to the Upper East Side after their only daughter, first-born Princess Olympia, and eldest son Prince Constantine came to New York to study. The move, four years ago, seems to have given Marie-Chantal, now 51, a new zest for life, as she relishes the energising buzz of New York and enjoys the amazing backdrop of this magnificent 1913 Manhattan property with its jaw-dropping vaulted ceilings – and that’s just the hallway.
“I feel full of life and excitement here,” she says. “There’s so much to keep me busy.”
