EAT UP, NASHVILLE
As we were putting the finishing touches on this issue, our world was upended by the late-night tornado that ripped through the heart of Nashville on March 3. A week later, we were facing innumerable cancellations and messages from local organizations in reaction to COVID-19. Had we known the toll these events would take on the city’s restaurant community, we might have switched gears to mention the stories of those restaurants lost, those who are fighting to keep their communities fed, and those who are rebounding in spite of so much lost. Deadlines being what they are, those stories are still to be told.
Instead, we’re taking the opportunity to look toward the future. Until recently, that future felt unclear and muddled, especially as Nashville’s dining scene continues to grow at such a rapid clip. But what recent events have made clear is that no matter how many restaurants launch in this town, the people behind them have each other’s backs. They stand together with their community, whether they’re opening brand new spots or running long-standing institutions.
