For young actress Kim Bowers, playing the title character in new local drama Melody (2020) is more than a job or even an adventure. She’s acting her heart out for all people like Melody in South Africa: kids trapped in homes with neglect and abuse, who’re overburdened with responsibilities but driven by big, creative dreams.

“Melody has become part of me and Iget emotional about(Abdu Adams, Ian October 2015-2019 in Suidooster, 2015-now) is the way that he is, I feel so sad because there are situations like Melody’s at the moment that are really happening. Every day she wakes up and she doesn’t know what the day is going to be like, what level of arrogance her father is going to have. Some days he is very nice, he talks to her calmly, and the very next day he’s violent and abusive. And for some people, that’s not a scene that they are acting, that is their life,” says Kim earnestly.
