THOUGH TEENAGE TIME-travellers Liz Skinner and Simon Randall could happily flit through the time barrier – slipping back from their native 1970 to wartime 1940, or forward two decades to a high-tech 1990 – they’ve now made their biggest timeshift of all, with Big Finish bringing the pair back to all-new audio adventures after almost 50 years.
“I must admit, back in 1970 when we made the original series, all the talk of 1990 did seem another age away. Now that year’s been and gone some time ago!” Actor Spencer Banks’s mind is boggling somewhat at returning to play Simon after five decades, but he’s grateful he’s no longer the 15-year-old school swot of yore, as we come bang up to date with Simon and Liz in the 21st century.
Making such all-important format decisions is producer David Richardson, who’s long wished to revive the series. “I’ve been talking about since I came through the door at Big Finish 12 years ago. I saw it on first broadcast when I was seven years old – I was caught up in the adventure, the storytelling and the characters of this very different and quite children’s show.”
