Addressing the public twice in the past two months, Queen Elizabeth displayed many of the hallmarks of her remarkable 68-year reign: steady leadership, a stiff upper lip, and a three-strand pearl necklace. But there was also something different about these remarks – like much of the world, she is in isolation, the vulnerability of her age making it crucial that she shelters in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
