Even better than the real thing

In Cumbria, where I was brought up, the weather would have been described as ‘gey clashy’. That translates as a blustery day with rain or hail one minute and sun the next. The light was changing second by second and it was as if the landscape had been captured in time-lapse photography. I was in Mid Wales in late January, so unpredictable weather was only to be expected. To be honest, the drive there had been through pouring rain, so I was happy to see the sun, even if it was only fleeting.

I had travelled to the Dovey Valley Shooting Ground for a simulated game shooting day on the Brynmelin Estate, which surrounds the shooting grounds. Both Dovey Valley and the estate belong to the Jones family. Until recently, people outside the family had run Dovey Valley but they have retired and Richard Jones now heads it up.
