The Heaviest of Collections

THE UNITED STATES MINT has certainly developed some amazing programs when it comes to our quarters. From multiple designs each year, to special finishes among uncirculated and proof offerings, to the mountains of circulating pieces that must be produced annually, the Mint seems to be doing it all. What gets called the America the Beautiful, or ATB, series is the latest in a decades-long string of inventive designs and impressive themes that grace the reverses of our 25-cent pieces. As if all this was not enough, we now have a decade of incredibly “heavy” quarters we can collect, meaning the 5-ounce silver bullion coins that have been modeled after our current quarters. Let’s take a look at this relatively new, evolving series, and just how we might collect it.
