The youngster settled the cross-hairs on the buck. It was the shot of a lifetime — the one he had waited for since he was 6.
Bang.
The buck stood still briefly before running away. The child couldn’t hold still. His body quivered with excitement, his legs shook uncontrollably and his adrenal glands had never pumped such a massive dose of fight-or-flight hormone into his bloodstream. It’s a wonder he didn’t collapse.
That youngster was me many years ago. I’d experienced a classic case of buck fever, and it was a surprise.
