Megan rang Suzy early one morning.

‘I hate to ask you this, sis…’ she began.

‘What?’ asked Suzy, alarmed. ‘What’s wrong?’

‘I’ve got the date for my knee operation.’

‘At last!’ said Suzy. ‘That’s brilliant. When is it?’

‘Next week. Just when Dave’s away, so I’ve got no-one to look after Jessica. I could tell them I can’t manage it… it’s such short notice…’

‘Don’t you dare!’ Suzy cried. ‘Jessica can come here and I’ll look after her.’

‘Are you sure?’

‘Of course I’m sure. It just so happens I’d booked next week off work anyway.’
