Charlie Kobdish got the idea to start a spiced pecan business when he was 10.

“I love to cook, and I knew that pecans are kind of a big market in Texas,” says the Dallas-based Scout, now 12.

He experimented with recipes until finding one he liked. Charlie’s dad took preorders for the pecans at a business meeting, expecting to sell maybe 10 bags. Instead, he sold 60 bags, and the family spent the entire next weekend making pecans. They’ve since moved out of the family’s home kitchen and into a commercial one that can handle larger quantities of pecans.
