“THIS WAISTCOAT is a garment that can be worn either open or closed with a brooch of your choice,” explains Viveka Velupillai. “The body is knitted in garter stitch, with the conventional ‘wrong side’ facing out so that the stripes blend into each other.
The border is knitted in what I am calling a ‘latticed slip garter’ stitch. The effect reminds me of my various cultures as a mixed heritage Swedish/Sri Lankan living in Shetland: the lattice pattern gives a nod to traditional South Asian stone lattice ornamentation, while the slip stitch colour alternations has a Fair Isle as well as a Bohus feel to it, without actually being stranded knitting.”
