Over the course of this occasional heritage series, we have chatted to quilt-lovers with a special interest in heritage quilts – collecting, caring for and studying them. In this final feature, Heather Audin, curator of The Quilters’ Guild Museum Collection, tells us what’s involved in looking after the quilt collection of an Accredited Museum.
What attracted you to working with a museum collection?
Even as a young child, I adored visiting museums and learning about history – I loved the subject so much I went on to do a degree in it. After graduating, I spent a year working in an archive, which is where paper-based records are stored. This confirmed that I’d prefer to work in a museum where artefacts are kept, ideally as a curator, as that involves being hands-on with physical objects. I then did a Masters in Museum Studies,
