DAMNING ACCOUNT OF BRAND SA

Abuse of power, corruption, maladministration and lack of proper governance were allegedly behind the collapse of Brand SA, according to a damning 53-page document titled Corruption Hurts All of Us: Anatomy of Corruption at Brand SA, which was written by former Brand SA chief executive officer (CEO) Kingsley Makhubela.
The state-owned enterprise, which is entrusted with promoting South Africa’s image, has been engaged in a protracted battle with Makhubela, who was placed on special leave in April 2018 following allegedly spurious allegations on the company’s whistle-blower hotline in what he described as an attempt to get rid of him for uncovering corruption.
Makhubela, a former ambassador and later director-general of the tourism department, was cleared after three investigations. He was also cleared of sexual harassment charges.
The stand-off finally came to an end last month, when Makhubela’s contract expired.
