OBSERVATIONS of Class 221 s on the West Coast Main Line in Scotland since lockdown started have been limited. On FridayJuly , 10, Nos. 221114 and 221103 were observed passing Thankerton while working the 1587 /16.52 London Euston-Glasgow Central serviceAn . additional Avanti Euston (dep 17.08) to Glasgow service on SundayJuly , 12 was operated by Nos. 221101 and 221113.

TWO additional Avanti Edinburgh-Preston-Edinburgh shuttle services started on July 13. On the following day the Edinburgh service departed at 08.52 and 15.53with , a return from Preston departing 11.49 and 17.49and , was operated by Class 221 No. 221113The . same unit was used the following day.

THE 1578/15.10 Euston-Glasgow, normally a Class 390 working, was worked by Class 221 s Nos. 221110 and 221114on July 14.

CLASS 800 No. 801230 left the Hitachi depot at Newton Aycliffe on July 8 running as 5Q60/21.56 Merchant Park-Doncaster arriving , at 23.56. It then made various test runs between Doncaster and Darlington.

USE of Class 91 son Edinburgh services has all but ended. Howeverthe , 07.30 King's Cross-Edinburgh and 13.30 return were still in their hands during late-July and early-Augustwith , No. 91102 reported on July 23; 91114 on July 27; 91119 on August 3; and 91115 on August 7 - all seen through Berwick-upon-Tweed.

THE 'Night Riviera Sleeperservice ' between London Paddington and Penzance has been cancelled until further notice.

Howeveran , overnight service, with limited seating capacity, operates on MondayTuesday , , WednesdayThursday , and Friday nights.

The overnight service includes sleeper carriages and the cafe, but these are not used and are there to help keep staff up to date with training.

On ThursdayJuly , 30, Class 57 No. 57603 Tintagel Castle was seen at the head of train 5C50 from Reading Traincare Depot to London Paddingtonthe , empty stock of the overnight train, when it paused at platform 15 at Reading station.

Class 57 No. 57602 Restormel Castle was at the rear of the train.

Later that evening the overnight train 1 C50/23.45 London Paddington-Penzance was seen at platform 1 at Paddington station headed by No. 57602, with No. 57603 still coupled at the rear, formedofNos.17175+12142+ 10219+ 10601+10563.

The following night the service was again observed at Paddington formed of Class 57 No. 57603 Tintagel Castle+ 17173+ 12100+ 10225+10601+10594+57605 Totnes Castlewhich , had worked the empty stock train coupled at the rear.

GWR is currently working a very limited service to Banbury, with just one return working in the morning and one in the afternoon. On ThursdayJuly , 30, Class 165 No. 165125 formed the 16.03 from Didcot Parkway to Banbury and then returned as the 17.20 from Banbury to Oxford. No. 165125 then formed the 18.07
