Boat Ramp Closure Updates
Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor on Kaua‘i is considered “potentially hazardous” and slated for closure and repair work in October. The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) reported that support beams for the Kukui‘ula ramp loading dock have delaminated. As a result, “the pier is sagging, creating a potentially hazardous situation.” The Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor is located southwest of Lihu‘e and has 10 vessel moorings, a washdown and a single lane ramp. A $292,292 Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) project contract for repairs was awarded to Sea Engineering Inc. Work is expected to start in mid-October and be completed by November.
The launch ramp remains open, but will close when construction begins.
Repairs to O‘ahu’s Hawai‘i Kai Maunalua Bay Small Boat Harbor ramp were scheduled for completion in July, but work has not begun. The DLNR stated in January 2019 that the Maunalua Bay Ramp loading dock was closed because “the concrete pier structure could collapse into the water.” Repairs were to be completed by Sea Engineering Inc. The completion date has been extended until November.
“We’re hoping to begin construction in August with completion by October/November,” Kokua Line. “The previous timeline got off track because we had to wait for permits.”
