A WORLD OF POSSIBILITY
LOSING your job is hard at the best of times but to suddenly find yourself out of work in the middle of a pandemic with the economy in decline and jobs as rare as hen’s teeth – that’s a scenario guaranteed to cause plenty of sleepless nights.
This is the situation that about three million South Africans find themselves in right now, according to figures released by the department of social development.
Yet even in the midst of all the chaos and uncertainty there are opportunities, as these five people discovered when suddenly jobless, they took the leap and started their own small businesses.
With a lot of hard work and chutzpah they’ve all made a go of it – and in certain cases, some are doing even better than before. We chatted to them to find out what they did to get their ventures off the ground and how they managed to remain positive – even when it felt as though the odds were stacked against them.
