SEVEN CHALLENGES TO DECIPHER THE MEGALITHIC PHENOMENON

The structures of megalithism are extraordinary. Between five and ten thousand years after their construction they still surprise those who visit them in spite of what we contemplate today they are no more than some very deteriorated remains of what they would be in their moment of maximum splendour. Not only does the complexity of their structure stand out, but also the enigmatic pictograms and petroglyphs present in them, where one of the keys to their understanding can perhaps be found. Traditional historiography has defended that the megalithic phenomenon is the result of the very high capacity of observation of the human being since, in essence, its disposition would be determined by different astronomical alignments. Oriented to the stars, they speak to us of space and time, which can also help us, without a doubt, to correctly interpret part of the meaning of these impressive monuments.

As we have advanced in our understanding, new questions have arisen. Today, it is even questioned whether they are the fruit of the Neolithic Revolution. We know that astronomy was not only relevant to agricultural societies.
