As the sun was coming up, I cracked the lid on the thermos of two-day-old coffee and poured the last of it into an old Styrofoam cup. I was on the back side of a trapline on a new ranch. I had more than 80 coyote sets in on another ranch and now I had more area to trap. I stretched as I got out of the truck and watched the sun come up on the New Mexico landscape. It was a crisp winter morning. And as I breathed into my hands and rubbed them for warmth, the area lit up with the howls of coyotes greeting the new day.
