2020 IS THE year Maine turns 200. In July 1819, the territory that is now Maine voted for statehood, and in March 1820, as part of the Maine-Missouri Compromise, it became the 23rd state in the U.S. Its historic birthday being cause for celebration, the northernmost state on the East Coast launched Maine200, a bicentennial fete with a slew of special programs and community get-togethers.
