“Being” in a time of crisis

This year has been a tumultuous one from the get-go. With bushfires raging across Australia, the lives of humans and animals were lost as land was scorched. Those living in high-risk areas were on alert to evacuate or fight, while many Australians followed the news with horror at the devastation the fires wreaked. Then there was the global outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic to contend with, and the loss of lives, jobs and freedom (due to physical-distancing laws) that came with it. Further unveiling of race-targeted violence sparked the growth of the Black Lives Matter movement, with many people around the world moved to action.
