PART TWO: PLANNING YOUR LAND-FINDING STRATEGY

There is an urban myth that finding a building plot is all about luck, but it is simply not true. Of course luck plays a part, but successful plot hunting is much more about organisation, persistence and a laser-like focus that seeks out plot possibilities others can’t see.

Trawling the land market and looking at what’s on offer is, in truth, mostly a waste of time — particularly if you don’t know what you’re looking for or what it should cost. So rather than waste time window shopping, it’s much better to get back to basics. You need to figure out what you want to build, where you want to build it, and a few other fundamentals that form the basis of what’s known as a land-finding strategy. These fundamentals are what we’ll cover in this article.
