ARMIE’S ANGUISH

‘I felt so trapped, like a wolf who got caught in a snare’ – ARMIE

IT weren’t for the coronavirus pandemic, actor (34) probably wouldn’t be going through a divorce right now. In an interview with GQ magazine he explained how his (38). The star of On the Basis of Sex says he was stuck in the Cayman Islands with his family. Sounds idyllic, right? Sure, until the tropical paradise went into a “draconian lockdown”. Armie stayed in his dad’s flat with Elizabeth, their daughter, (5), and son, (3), his father, businessman Michael Armand (65), and his father’s new wife. “We’d be looking out at the ocean, but couldn’t go in the ocean; looking at the beach, but couldn’t go on the beach. We couldn’t leave the apartment, couldn’t go in the pool, couldn’t do anything. So, it was a really concentrated family time, which is really great with the kids, but it was intense,” Armie explains. The Golden Globe nominee admits he didn’t handle the situation well, saying that he “came close to completely losing” his mind. “It was a complicated, intense situation, with big personalities all locked in a little tiny place. It was tough, man. I’d never dealt with anything like that before in my life, so I didn’t have the [emotional] tools. It was just this thing that sneaked up on everybody.” While in quarantine, Armie and Elizabeth decided to split after 10 years of marriage. Elizabeth, who owns a bakery and has appeared as a judge on cooking competition shows such as Cupcake Wars, filed for divorce on 10 July, citing irreconcilable differences. Armie describes the separation as a “seriously seismic event”. “There’s a lot of shifting and a lot of growing pains and a lot of changes,” he says. Heartbroken as he may sound, Armie hasn’t wasted time moving on. The star was seen getting cosy with writer (35), the ex-wife of actor Josh Lucas, during lunch in late August. Just days later he was seen out walking with his arm around actress (32). A source claims Armie is enjoying being single for the first time in his adult life. “He and his ex were together since he was 20 years old, so he’s just going out and meeting people but not dating anyone.”
