USS Texas Has New Caretaker
he nonprofit Battleship Foundation has assumed operational control of USS—the last surviving battleship to have fought in both world wars—having signed a 99-year lease with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department. The first U.S. battleship converted into a museum ship, is anchored in the Houston Ship Channel offshore from the San Jacinto Monument. It is being prepped for transport later this year to a shipyard for repairs. The foundation hopes to reopen the battleship to the public in early 2022.
